At 5:00 AEST tomorrow morning, Australia is playing Croatia for a chance to get through to the next round of the World Cup.
There a very good chance that Australia will get through – they only need to draw, unless Japan kicks the pants off Brazil. Croatia, also playing their last game of the round, must beat Australia to qualify.
Looking at the market, we have (for a $1 bet):
- Croatia to win: $2.48
- Australia to win: $2.85
- Draw: $3.30
For Japan v Brazil, they have $12 for Japan to win.
The great rags-to-riches story is that prior to our dramatic win again Japan, Australia has never scored a goal at the World Cup. The last we qualified was 1974.
Also interesting is that Australia has seven players of Croatian origin and Croatia has three players born in Australia.
