Audible Gestures

Notebooks have built-in microphones. Why can’t they be used as an input mechanism?

Tapping out a drum-beat or making some kind of audible gesture could fire up an app, go to a website or perform some other action. It’s surely more fun than clicking on an icon or pulling off a key-combination. Plus, there’s good potential for muscle-memory to support remembering the gesture.

Fancier notebooks have array microphones which might support more sophisticated gestures.

…and furthermore, what is the potential of using an in-built microphone as a MIDI input to a sequencer or drum machine?
